Paws & Pals
Safe Pets Safe Families currently host 16 free pop-up vet clinics across South Australia per year through their outreach program, Paws & Pals. The program is offered to people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness to ensure their pet receives the veterinary care they require. Through this program, Safe Pets, Safe Families offers general health checks, preventative vet care such as vaccinations and parasite control, microchips, and grooming.
At a pop-up vet clinic, in February this year Safe Pets, Safe Families was able to supply 22 vaccinations, 11 microchips, and flea prevention to all 22 pets. As a result of these vet checks, there was a follow-up, and 7 of these pets were sent for desexing, 5 were sent for dental work and 3 were suffering ear and skin issues.
This program not only provides the pets with the care they deserve but support people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness to ensure they can keep their companion even through the toughest of times.
